Operation Canine Comfort

Please help us provide Minco and Karma with the comfort they deserve

A generous donor (and wolf lover) has provided an incredible gift for a much-needed project: Operation Canine Comfort!

It is our honor and privilege to be able to provide our animal residents with the REST of their lives, and Operation Canine Comfort aims to do that for Minco and Karma, our resident wolf dogs. In the last year, we have received more requests to provide sanctuary for these hybrids than any other animal. When they end up not working out as “pets” these poor dogs have nowhere to go. Illegal to own in some states and in most cities, wolf dogs can’t be adopted when they end up in traditional animal shelters. Their often unpredictable behavior, high prey drives and overall wild instincts make them unsuitable (and dangerous) family pets. If placement in an accredited sanctuary cannot be found, these guys end up in roadside zoos with inadequate habitats or worse.

This was the case with Minco and Karma. These two were both bred to be “pets,” and when it was discovered they weren’t suitable as such they ended up in a pseudo-sanctuary. That, thankfully, was closed down by the authorities due to the conditions under which the animals were living. Black Pine stepped up at that time to FINALLY provide these deserving creatures with the REST of their lives. If you have ever been to Black Pine you can see they want nothing more than to be as far away from humans as possible. They are often seen frantically pacing their habitat when we are open to the public. We do our best to avoid the front stretch of their space during guided tours with larger groups, but we know we can do better. We also know we need your help.

In order to remove the walkway in front of the wolves, we need to remove 15 trees. Even with a hefty discount, this job is costly and was not in the budget. Our wolf-loving supporter has agreed to MATCH your donations, dollar-for-dollar, up to $10,000 to help us complete this project! Removing these trees and placing a natural barrier of tall grasses in front of Minco and Karma’s forever home will provide them with the comfort they deserve. Opening day is May 2nd, and with your help, 2025 can be the most peaceful year Karma and Minco have ever seen.

Operation Canine Comfort: Help us raise $20,000 to bring Minco and Karma some additional comfort.
